It's a Gold Rush for the Home Nations at the Commonwealth Games
The Gold Coast has produced a gold rush for the Home Nations and the medals have been flowing in for swimming – it’s been win after win! Here’s our round up of all the action.
Siobhan-Marie O’Connor won gold in the 200m individual medley final with an inspiring display, achieving a top time of 2 minutes 9.80 seconds.
World Record holder, Adam Peaty smashed it in the men’s 100m Breaststroke final, taking the gold with a winning time of 58.84 seconds. Peaty also won silver for England in the men’s 50m breaststroke final, with Sarah Vasey winning gold in the women’s 50m Breaststroke.
Alice Tai won gold in the women's S9 100m backstroke and silver in the women’s S9 100m freestyle with a lifetime best of 1:03.07.
Thomas Hamer won gold in the men's S14 200m Freestyle with Aimee Wilmott also winning gold in the women's 400m individual medley.
The gold for the 50m freestyle was won by Ben Proud with a time of 21.35 seconds. James Wilby won gold in the 200m breaststroke and also took home the silver in the 100m breaststroke.
England has seen a successful sweep for silver too, with the men’s relay teams winning silver in the 4x200 freestyle relay, 4x100m medley relay and the 4x100m freestyle relay. Holly Hibbott won silver in the 400m freestyle and Lewis White won silver for the men's S9 100m freestyle.
Eleanor Robinson and Molly Renshaw each won a silver medal, with Eleanor winning in the women's S7 50m butterfly and Molly winning in the 200m breaststroke.
Lewis White nabbed the silver in the men’s S9 100m freestyle and James Guy won silver in the 100m butterfly.
Despite England’s impressive performance, Scotland weren’t ready to be outdone.
Duncan Scott won an outstanding 6 medals for Scotland, including gold in the 100m freestyle, silver in the 200m individual medley and 4 bronze medals for 200m freestyle, 4x100m freestyle, 4x200m freestyle and 200m butterfly.
The silver medals also rolled in for Scotland, with Ross Murdoch winning silver for his 200m breaststroke and Mark Szaranek winning silver in the 400m medley. Hannah Miley kept up Scotland’s winning streak after she won silver in the women’s 400m medley final with an incredible time of 4:35.16 minutes!
Wales’ Alys Thomas gave an amazing performance in the pool and won gold in the women’s 200m butterfly with a time of 2:05.45 minutes.
